JNV Ukhrul secures third place in Model Youth Gram Sabha 2026

Imphal, January 22 2026:
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Ukhrul, Manipur, has brought laurels to the State by securing the third position at the national level in the Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) 2026.The achievement was earned by a team of 10 students from the school, who demonstrated exemplary understanding of grassroots democracy, leadership, and participatory governance.
In the national rankings, JNV Una of Himachal Pradesh and JNV Kannur of Kerala secured the first and second positions respectively.
The Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) initiative has witnessed an impressive nationwide reach and participation.
The programme was successfully conducted in 619 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) and 200 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) across various States and Union Territories, reflecting nearuniversal coverage in JNVs and complete coverage in EMRSs.
Of these, 609 out of 619 JNVs and 175 out of 200 EMRSs successfully completed documentation on the Panchayat Nirnay Portal, highlighting strong institutional engagement and effective implementation.
Overall, 28,773 students actively participated in the initiative across the country.
Through a rigorous process of evaluation and documentation, best-performing schools and impactful MYGS sessions were identified for national-level recognition.
The performance of JNV Ukhrul stood out for its meaningful deliberations, role-play, and democratic decision-making, earning it a place among the top three MYGS schools in the country.
The Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) is a national initiative jointly implemented by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), Government of India, in collaboration with State Governments.
The National Award Ceremony of Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) will be held on January 28, 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, where outstanding schools and student teams, including JNV Ukhrul, will be honoured for their exceptional contribution to promoting participatory democracy among youth.
