Bishnupur, June 21 2025:
Former UNLF chairman RK Meghen alias Sanayaima has voiced serious doubts over the possibility of an early resolution to the ongoing crisis in the state.
Speaking in the back-drop of continued tensions and a lack of visible progress in peace-building efforts, Sanayaima remarked that the situation remains deeply unsettled, with no meaningful political or administrative breakthrough in sight.
He made the statement on Saturday while interacting with media during his visit to the residence of Ningthoujam Biren (56), son of (late) Tomba Singh of Phubala Awang Maning Leikai, who was shot in the left arm, by Kuki militants, while he was working in his paddy farm near Phubala Maning High Canal on June 19.He extended financial aid to the injured farmer's family.
Speaking at the sidelines of his visit, Sanayaima observed that the conflict started by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists since May 3, 2023, will not end, as they will continue attacks until their aim to evict the Meetei community from the valley succeeds.
Asserting that the Government of India is not serious about the matter, as it plans to use such incidents to divide the state, he said that even though India is a democratic country, democracy has been suppressed in Manipur.
Sanayaima also decried that arms have been seized from the valley, while free rein has been given in the hills, where they are openly carrying military-grade firearms.
He added that the ongoing crisis will decide the future of Manipur.
He also observed that the attack in Phubala proves that security forces are unable to control Kuki militants and such attacks will happen again, for which Meeteis must be prepared.
He further announced that preparations have been made to start an aid group to extend help to victims of the present turmoil.
The former UNLF chairman was accompanied by members of Peace Committee Kangleipak, Manipur, and Meira Paibi activists of Phubala.
Later, Sanayaima and others visited the incident site.
