Imphal, November 18 2024:
In a crucial meeting held at the chief minister's secretariat on Monday, the ruling MLAs resolved to initiate mass operations against Kuki militants within seven days in response to the recent brutal killings of six innocent women and children in Jiribam.
The MLAs also decided that several high-profile cases, including the killing of the six civilians, the death of a Hmar woman in Jiribam, and the killing of a Meetei woman farmer at Saiton, Bishnupur district, would be immediately handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further investigation.
The meeting began with an endorsement of the decisions made by the state cabinet on Saturday, which included a call for the central government to review its decision to re-impose the Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the state.
The MLAs emphasised the urgency of action, particularly in the wake of recent violent incidents that have rocked the state.
The meeting also resolved to recommend the Centre to declare the Kuki militants responsible for the killings of the six women and children as an "unlawful organisation" within seven days.
The MLAs warned that failure to implement these resolutions within the specified time frame would force all NDA legislators to consult with the people of the state and decide on further actions.
Additionally, the meeting condemned the action of certain persons, humiliating ministers and MLAs, which included physical assaults and the destruction of properties.
The legislators expressed their outrage over these acts of violence and pledged to pursue legal action against the perpetrators, following the findings of a High Powered Committee.
