Imphal, June 18 2025:
Chairman and managing director of BABINA Healthcare and Hospitality Industries, Dr Thangjam Dhabali Singh, has sought community support for care homes, while asserting that offering support to these facilities, in a spirit of sacrifice, can make both the early and later stages of life meaningful.
Dr Dhabali was speaking as chief guest on the occasion of 15th foundation day of the Old Age Home run by All Manipur Senior Citizens Welfare Association held at the home located at Arubam Ingkhol, Mongshangei Makha Leikai, on Wednesday.
The function was marked by offering of floral tributes to the photos of the founder members of the home and planting of tree saplings inside its complex.
He stated that human beings require the care and support of others during both the early and later stages of life.
In childhood, individuals are typically looked after by their parents or relatives, but in the absence of such caregivers, they are placed in children's homes.
Similarly, in old age, people depend on their sons and daughters for support.
However, when no family members are available to care for them, they often end up in old age homes, he said.
Dr Dhabali noted that in some cases, even though children may provide financial support while working outside the state, their elderly parents are left without physical care and are eventually sent to old age homes.
This, he said, highlights the importance of ensuring proper care during these two vulnerable stages of life.
While the government has a role to play, members of society must also cultivate a spirit of sacrifice and extend support to such homes, he stressed.
Dr Dhabali also remarked that among the various children and old-age homes in the state, the Old Age Home at Mongshangei is comparatively better managed, with its residents living happily and without major issues.
He said that other homes should also endeavour towards mobilising resources from different sources to reach the standard set by the Mongshangei facility.
Presided over by All Manipur Senior Citizens Welfare Association president S Kunjabihari, the function was attended by Mongshangei Children Home donor Dr S Ibempishak as guest of honour.
As part of the event, gifts were presented to well-wishers of the old-age home and a beneficiary of the home awarded cash prize.
