Imphal, March 16 2026:
The All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) has formally requested the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF & PD), Government of Manipur, to take immediate action to prevent the artificial price hike of essential commodities ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
In a letter dated March 16, addressed to the Director of the CAF & PD, the student body highlighted a recurring issue where traders and vendors tend to increase prices during major festivals.
The organisation noted that practices such as artificial price hikes and hoarding create significant hardship for the general public, particularly for economically weaker sections of society.
The AMMSO has urged the Department to keep a close eye on market prices of essentials across the State, conduct regular inspections to curb artificial hikes and hoarding, ensure fair pricing for the public during the festival, and take necessary action against traders violating price regulations.
The AMMSo expressed hope that the Department would take prompt steps to ensure market stability and protect consumer rights, allowing people to observe the festival peacefully and with dignity.
