Two more ponies found dead

Imphal, May 15 2025: After three ponies were found dead under suspicious circumstances in a paddy field at Bashikhong Jubraj Palli, Imphal East district, two more ponies perished at the same location late Thursday afternoon.

A joint team of Polo Welfare Association, People for Animal and staff of Imphal East District Veterinary Officer arrived at the scene and inspected the scene.

Speaking to The People's Chronicle in this regard, a People for Animal representative recounted that three ponies were found dead at the same location on May 2.On Thursday, two more ponies were found lifeless in the same paddy field.

While there is suspicion that the ponies may have ingested some kind of poison, there are no grazable vegetation in the location.

There are no snake bites, raising suspicions that someone may have intentionally placed poisonous substance in the location, he opined.

Informing that the post mortem examination of the two ponies would be conducted on Friday to determine the exact cause of death, the representative said that the previous dead ponies were buried by Polo Welfare Association.

The identity of the owner(s) of the deceased ponies is not yet known.

If need arises, the bodies of three horses could be exhumed for post mortem examination, the representative added.
