Bhalla urged to look into demolition

Imphal, October 13 2025: Khurai AC MLA L Susindro Meitei has urged Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to look into the circumstances leading to the demolition of Manipuri Rajbari at Shillong and initiate appropriate steps to preserve the historic site.

In a letter to the Governor, he stated that the Manipuri Rajbari holds profound historical and National significance as the venue where the Manipur Merger Agreement was signed.

Despite its rich heritage value and repeated appeals from citizens concerned, heritage advocates and former officials for its preservation, the building has regrettably been demolished to make way for a new construction, he said.

Saying that the demolition of the Manipuri Rajbari has caused widespread dismay among the people of Manipur and those who cherish the State's cultural and historical legacy, he MLA added that it would be most appropriate to protect and develop the remnants of the building or its site as a heritage memorial.
