The Nungshi Echel Pension Scheme was formally launched on Friday at Heirok as part of the 3rd foundation day celebration of Prem Dhara Trust, marking a step towards supporting elderly widowed women in the community.
As part of the initiative, pensions were distributed to 25 elderly widowed women during the programme.
The event was graced by retired Deputy General of the Art & Cultural Department, Shijagurumayum Tarunkumar Sharma, as chief guest.
Principal of Manipur College, Aribam Devidas Sharma, attended as the guest of honour, while Chairman of Prem Dhara Trust, Thangsabam Basanta Kumar Singh, presided over the function.
The programme began with floral tributes to the late Khundrakpam Nungshi Devi, who was fondly remembered for her dedicated service to society and her vision in establishing the trust to serve the community.
Highlighting the scheme, Managing Trustee of Prem Dhara, Binanda Khundrakpam stated that the initiative aims to provide modest financial support to elderly widows in need.
Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive a monthly pension of Rs 100, amounting to Rs 1,200 annually.
He emphasized that the scheme is not linked to any government programme and is being implemented with the support of donors and well-wishers.
The trust is also making additional efforts to expand assistance to more beneficiaries.
The initiative seeks to foster a sense of care and support for the elderly, with organisers hope that even modest assistance will make a meaningful difference in their lives.
