Forest Department conducts major area domination exercise in Heingang RF

Imphal, May 09 2026: In a significant move to bolster forest protection, the Central Forest Division of Manipur carried out an extensive Area Domination Exercise today along the sensitive foothills of the Heingang Reserve Forest.

The operation was led by Vikram Suresh Nadhe, Divisional Forest Officer, Central Forest Division.

He was supported by a team of senior officers, including Range Forest Officers from Imphal East, Imphal West, and Nongmaiching, alongside frontline forest personnel.

As per a release issued by the Central Forest Division, the exercise was part of a broader departmental strategy to crack down on illegal activities within protected areas.

The operation focused on enhancing vigilance, surveillance, and field presence in vulnerable forest stretches and encroachment-prone areas.

During the exercise, teams conducted intensive patrolling across high-risk locations within the foothills of the Heingang Reserve Forest to prevent and deter illegal encroachment, illicit felling of trees, and unauthorized extraction of forest resources, illegal construction activities and other activities detrimental to the ecological integrity of the reserve forest.

The DFO, Central Forest Division, emphasized that sustained field presence and coordinated enforcement are vital for the long-term conservation of the State's reserve forests.

The Central Forest Division also took the opportunity to commend the Joint Forest Management Committee and local villagers for their ongoing support in conservation efforts.

The Department has appealed to the public to assist in preserving Manipur's ecological balance.

Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or illegal activities within reserve forest boundaries to the authorities immediately.

Officials stated that these area domination exercises will be intensified in the coming months to ensure the sustainable management and protection of the region's vital forest ecosystems.
