58th Conference / Sports Meet of Chothe Students' Union kicks off

The week-long 58th Conference cum Sports Meet, 2026 of the Chothe Students' Union commenced today at Purum Chumbang village in Chandel district.
Held under the theme "Preserving Heritage.
Inspiring Generation", the inaugural programme was attended by Dr SS Olish, MLA of Chandel Assembly Constituency, as the chief guest; Dr Amarson Sankhil, principal of JNV Chandel as the functional president: while Ch Priscilla of Naga Womens' Union, Manipurm graced the occasion as guest of honour.
Thao Malsawn Chothe, president of Chothe Lim Abom (CLAM), Manipur, attended the programme as special guest.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest MLA Dr SS Olish said that although Chandel is a small district, it is home to several small tribes and linguistic groups, with more than ten languages spoken in the region.
She stressed that being a small community, it should not be a cause of discouragement, and urged the people to preserve their traditions, identity and cultural heritage with pride.
Recalling her own experience as a former student leader, the MLA said she fully understands the difficulties and challenges faced by students, and therefore assured that she would extend all possible support to help overcome these challenges and promote the welfare of students and youth.
The week-long conference and sports meet aim to foster unity, cultural awareness and a sense of belonging among the youth.
Students, artists and sportspersons from different Chothe villages across the State are taking part in various cultural, literary and sporting competitions during the event.
