Thoubal, September 04 2025:
With the authorities moving to launch an eviction drive across Heirok, residents affected by the eviction staged a sit-in protest today at Heirok Keithel, demanding authorities reconsider the eviction notice.
During the protest, protesters carried placards bearing slogans like "Conduct Survey Before Eviction", "Stop Selective Eviction," "We Cannot Accept Eviction Influenced by Vested Interests".
Later the protesters submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, through SDC Heirok demanding to conduct a scientific land survey first before eviction.
The memorandum expressed concern that the eviction order was not fair and uniform, alleging that it was issued without scientific verification and influenced by vested interests.
Speaking at the protest, Th Shila stressed that eviction should only be carried out after scientific surveys using satellite mapping and other modem methods.
She added that eviction must be conducted fairly and without bias to ensure justice for all affected families.
