Serving Hope: Indian Army helps IDPs launch mobile canteen in Bishnupur

Bishnupur, February 03 2026: In a significant step towards promoting self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods, the Indian Army's Red Shield Division under Spear Corps has assisted in establishing a mobile canteen service operated by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) residing in Thanga, Moirang, and Kumbi.

According to a press release issued by the Indian Army, the distribution and facilitation of cooking items took place at the Community Hall, Sendra, on the serene shores of the Loktak Lake.

The mobile canteen began its operation by preparing food for the students of Thanga Island Modem School.

Once fully operational, it is envisioned to run throughout the academic year, providing a sustainable source of income and stable employment opportunities for approximately, contributing to their livelihood sustenance.

By empowering displaced persons to manage and operate the canteen themselves, the initiative moves beyond immediate relief and focuses on sustenance, livelihood security, confidence, and community integration for IDPs residing at these locations.

The initiative reflects the Indian Army's continued commitment to humanitarian outreach and people-centric development, supporting Internally Displaced Persons in rebuilding their lives with dignity, hope, and sustainable livelihoods in Thanga, Moirang and Kumbi.

The programme was attended by Brigadier Mahar Regiment Sachin S Mahadik, Additional Deputy Magistrate Bishnupur Toijam Opendro, 2nd Mahar Regiment CO Balraj Poonia, DI Moirang M Dinesh and Social Activist Cyclist Rohan Philem.
