SGSJ campaign launched in Chandel to promote waste management and environmental conservation

Chandel, June 02 2026:
As part of the nationwide Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu (SGSJ) Campaign 2026 under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), a series of activities are being conducted across Gram Panchayats in Chandel district from June 1 to 5 to promote sustainable solid waste management andenvironmental conservation.
The campaign was formally launched by K Khamba Maring, Executive Engineer; Assistant Engineers Neisuokim Aimol, RD Mowarhring and RL Ngamhring of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), along with headmen of different villages of the district.
The campaign commenced with sensitisation programmes for Gram Panchayat functionaries and lead facilitators on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and directives of the Supreme Court.
Site visits and functionality assessments of community solid waste management assets were subsequently carried out to validate existing facilities and strengthen waste management practices at the grassroots level.
As part of the campaign, Gram Panchayats identified and listed Bulk Waste Generators, organized awareness programmes on Mission LiFE themes, conducted cleanliness drives with active community participation, and promoted behavioural change towards waste reduction, water conservation and elimination of single-use plastics.
The campaign will culminate on World Environment Day with Special Gram Sabha meetings and plantation drives under the theme "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" .
Discussions focused on the achievements of the campaign, compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules, source segregation of waste, composting, and the collective responsibility of communities in maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
The SGSJ campaign aims to strengthen community participation in rural sanitation and foster environmentally responsible practices for a cleaner and greener future.
