Protest staged against Saparmeina PS report

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently taking shelter at the Mandop Yumpham relief camp, Khurkhul under Sekmai AC staged protest on Tuesday after a statement of Saparmeina police station in Kangpokpi district mentioned that there was no sign of settlement of a particular Meetei family in Charhazar Meetei Leikai in Kangpokpi district after May 3, 2023 .
Owner of the particular land Oinam Thoithoi's wife Sanathoi told media persons during the protest that her husband has been living in Charhazar Meetei Leikai since the time of his forefathers.
Apart from having computerised land document for the land plot, the family possesses ration card, Aadhaar card, EPIC and PAN card with all these documents intact, she said adding that the statement of Saparmeina police station is unacceptable.
According to Sanathoi, a complaint was lodged at Sekmai police station on July 27, 2023 after the Kukis torched the house during the initial phase of violence which broke out on May 3, 2023 .
In response to the complaint, Saparmeina police station issued a statement on June 17, 2025 mentioning that there is no sign of settlement of the family/house at Charhazar Meetei Leikai and called for withdrawing the complaint, Sanathoi said.
While demanding review of the investigation, Sanathoi appealed to clubs, organisations and CSOs to look into the matter to avoid such incidents in future.
Mandop Yumpham relief camp coordinator RK Sanahal also said that people expected return of peace with the imposition of President's Rule but nothing has changed till date.
He said that 1,100 displaced persons currently taking shelter in the relief camp are suffering due to untimely distribution relief materials and daily allowance of Rs 80 .
