CAU launches 'Khet Bachao Abhiyan'

The Directorate of Extension Education, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, along with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal East, today launched the 'Khet Bachao Abhiyan' at the Directorate's conference hall in Lamphelpat.
The month-long campaign, held under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, aims to promote soil health and reduce chemical use in farming.
Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykishan attended as chief guest, with CAU Director of Extension Education Prof Ng Iboyaima presiding.
Commissioner (Agriculture) T Pamei, College of Agriculture Dean Prof K Nandini, ICAR Imphal Regional Centre Head Dr S Basanta, and KVK Imphal East Head Dr Y Prabhabati were guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Kh Joykishan said, "Saving farmland is saving mankind" .
He noted that the initiative, taken under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, would benefit both people and livestock.
Experts warned that indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has degraded soil and harmed human health, urging farmers to adopt organic alternatives as their own responsibility.
The campaign was initiated by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to promote organic inputs and protect farmland.
