Imphal, March 01 2012:
Questioning the integrity of Opposition parties in the state, President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Gaikhangam, has exclaimed that the Opposition parties in the state are now teaming up with Naga People's Front (NPF), a political party which is out to destroy the integrity of Manipur.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan here today, Gaikhangam contended that the stand of the Opposition parties in the state to team up with NPF is really unfortunate as far as the state and its people are concern.
The NPF is a party which is entirely for the Naga community only and it has even sworn to amalgamate all the Naga inhabited areas of Manipur with Nagaland.
He further asserted that Congress is a party which does not work in the interest of a particular section of the society or religion.
Congress always stands for territorial integrity of Manipur and hence it would never go with NPF which is out there to destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Questioning the integrity of Opposition parties in supping with NPF, Gaikhangam alleged that the Opposition parties are self centered.
On the decision of CPI withdrawing support from the Congress led SPF government, Gaikhangam maintained that CPI may have some could have grudges against the Congress before the election, but it's too late now for all sorts of blame games.
Responding to a query, Gaikhangam said that a government formed by different political parties seldom last long.
Gaikhangam asserted that there is no fight for the post of CLP leader in Congress and the process for choosing the CLP leader would be started soon after the results of the election is declared.
He also expressed regret over ECI not listening to the Congress when they approached for re-poll, but succumbing to the pressure from Opposition parties.
"The Congress has no fear over re-poll and it is all set for the fresh election in 67 polling stations.
Nonetheless, ECI should provide adequate security personnel, otherwise re-poll would be meaningless", Gaikhangam observed.
