Imphal, December 31 2025: Denouncing the gun attack by unknown miscreants at the residence of Paonam Hemanta in Sagolband Khamnam Leirak, Sagolband Khmnam Leirak Apunba Meira Paibi staged a sit-in protest at Sagolband Khamnam Leikai Bazaar area today.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, a Meira Paibi said that yesterday at around 3 pm, a masked man entered the residential complex of Paonam Hemanta (55), Zilla Parishad of Patsoi Gram Panchayat and general secretary of Cachar Road Athletic Union (CRAU), and questioned the children who were playing about the whereabouts of Hemanta.

"After the children told the man that Hemanta was not at home, he took out a gun and forcefully took a child (niece of Hemanta) inside the house to check whether Hemanta was there or not", she claimed.

She also claimed that the man snatched a mobile phone from Paonam Ratan (Hemanta's cousin) and fired a single round of bullet in the air before fleeing the scene.

She strongly condemned the gun attack carried out in a residential area and urged all to refrain from creating an atmosphere of fear during this difficult time.

She also appealed to all concerned to step forward & issue a clarification at the earliest and not to repeat such acts in the future.

Notably, Lamphel Police Station has registered a case regarding the incident.
