ICAR Manipur holds training on 'Quality Seed Production of Kharif Rice'

ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, today organised a one-day Training-cum-Input Distribution Programme on "Participatory Quality Seed Production of Kharif Rice to Strengthen State Seed Sustainability" at Loktak Farmer Hostel, Lamphelpat.
Kakching AC MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh attended as chief guest, while Head of Regional Centre S Basanta Singh presided.
Senior Scientist Kh Rishikanta Singh, Nodal Officer Dr Konsam Sarika, and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh president N Indubhasan Singh were guests of honour.
Seeds and sprayers were distributed to farmers from various districts during the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Rameshwar said population growth, industrialisation and climate change have triggered a global food crisis, stressing the need to raise farm income through higher productivity and organic practices.
He added that collaboration between farmers and scientists is vital to take new technologies to fields and emphasised that quality seeds and fertile soil are key to agriculture.
S Basanta Singh noted that nearly 50% of the State's farmland has been lost to structures and fish farms, and called for strict enforcement of the Wetland Cultivation Act.
He said ICAR is working to set up model integrated farming systems across all districts.
In the technical session, Dr Konsam Sarika spoke on scientific practices in quality seed production, Dr N Anando Singh on agronomic practices, Dr A Ratankumar Singh on disease management, Dr N Johnson Singh on pest management, Dr N Ajitkumar Singh on insect management, and Dr Kolom Rabi on practices of quality rice seed production.
The programme ended with an interaction session.
