AMSU to observe 'Regeneration Month'

Imphal, July 26 2026: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has announced that the 61st anniversary of the Chaklam Khongchat will be observed for one month as "Mathou Sangba Thabum" or Regeneration Month, beginning tomorrow till August 27 .

Addressing the media at the AMSU office in Imphal today, AMSU president Lukram Malangba said the observance commemorates the historic student movement of August 27, 1965, launched against alleged State failures during a food crisis.

Four students laid down their lives during the agitation, saving the State, he added.

He said the month-long observance aims to instill responsibility among students and youth who will lead the future.

It will focus on analyzing social issues, addressing shortcomings, and creating awareness among the public on changing times.

The theme emphasizes a united Manipur that is self-reliant, corruption-free and territorially intact, he said.

Calling for public participation, Malangba urged people to support programmes on culture, economy and mindset change under "AMSU for self-reliant Manipur" .

He reiterated, "Let us unite again, be masters of our land, and build a self-reliant, united Manipur.
