Imphal, September 25 2024:
In connection with the prevailing conflict in Manipur, which broke out on May 3 last year, National People's Party (NPP), which is an alliance partner of the BJP governments both in the state and at the centre, will be holding a meeting at Hotel Radisson Blu, Guwahati on Thursday.
According to sources, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma, who is also the NPP president, issued a notification for the meeting on September 21, instructing all NPP MLAs of Manipur along with state executive members to attend.
The notification further stated that the meeting is being convened with regard to the prevailing conflict in Manipur which has affected people from all walks of life since last year, not to mention of the rising crimes in the state.
It has also affected the development processes and fuelled hatred between communities, in addition to destabilising the law and order situation.
As such, taking the matter seriously, the party decided to hold the meeting as soon as possible.
On the other hand, NPP MLA Kh Loken said that the Guwahati meeting scheduled to commence from 11am and presided over by Conrad K Sangma, would have detailed discussion on the conflict and possible solutions for restoring peace.
He said that the proposed meeting has nothing to do with regard to support or withdrawal to/from the BJP government.
The seven MLAs and other office bearers of the party will hold talks with the party president on what steps could be taken up regarding the conflict and how to facilitate negotiation for peace between the two communities in conflict.
Mention may be made here that NPP national vice president and former deputy chief minister of Manipur Yumnam Joykumar, while speaking to the media recently, had accused the central and state governments of failing to solve the conflict between the two communities.
He had also expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the steps taken up till date will not end the conflict and cautioned of withdrawing support to the state government by serving a three-month deadline starting from October 3 .
Furthermore, Joykumar and other executive members of the party had previously visited Shillong to discuss the conflict and possible solutions in detail with party president Conrad K Sangma.
