Moirang, February 24 2026:
Moirang Kendra Apunba Loumee Shinmi Amasung Nupi Lup has expressed its full support to the proposed protest of the COCOMI Farmers' Wing, which is set to be launched demanding immediate compensation for farmlands rendered unusable due to the violence that erupted in the State on May, 2023.In a press release, the organisation stated that the prolonged ethnic violence has severely impacted agricultural activities across the State.
It claimed that nearly 15,000 quintals of rice could not be produced from around 5,000 acres of farmland over the past three years, leading to a significant loss in food supply meant for the people of the State.
The organisation further alleged that several farmlands belonging to Meitei farmers, currently under the protection of security forces, are being cultivated by Kuki groups.
It maintained that many original landowners are still unable to access or use their own fields.
The body stated that their primary demand is the removal of the security restrictions to allow Meitei farmers access to and use of their agricultural land.
It also criticized the government for its alleged failure to disburse compensation and to safeguard the farmlands, stating that continued inaction is pushing affected farmers towards extreme hardship.
