MSF holds discourse on 'Importance and necessity of learning in Manipuri language'

The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) today organised a 1-day discourse on "Importance and Necessity of Learning in Manipuri Language" at the National Research Centre in Canchipur.
Delivering the keynote address, MSF vice president Ningombam Prem stated that the Manipuri language holds a significant place in shaping society's future and that promoting and developing the language is everyone's responsibility.
He raised concern about whether the language, which is included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, is fading from educational curricula in the 21st century.
He asserted that over the years, MSF lias been urging the Government to focus on the development and promotion of the language for future generations, through various movements/campaigns.
Prem emphasized the necessity of making sufficient textbooks, reference books, competitive exam books, and other materials available in the Manipuri language.
He also mentioned the need to create dictionaries, encyclopedias, and standard glossaries.
"A memorandum was also submitted to the Governor regarding this matter on May 12, 2025", added Prem.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Naorem Sanatomba, Assistant Professor, Manipur University; Dr Irom Robindro, Assistant Professor, Manipur University of Culture; Hijam Roshan, president, MSF; and W Nabakumar, former Professor, Manipur University.
