Thoubal Forest team seizes air guns, recovers six spotted dove carcasses

Thoubal, December 23 2025:
The Thoubal Forest Range staff, under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer, Thoubal Forest Division, Dr Leishangthem Jeeceelee, seized two air guns and recovered six carcasses of Spotted Doves during a drive conducted at Thoubal Kshetri Leikai.
According to forest officials, the operation was carried out after receiving information that some individuals were illegally using air guns to hunt birds in the area.
Acting promptly, a team from the Thoubal Forest Range, led by Range Officer Dineshchandra Salam, along with members of People for Animals, Thoubal, rushed to the spot.
On noticing the forest personnel, the suspected individuals reportedly fled the area, abandoning two air guns and the carcasses of six spotted doves.
Range Officer Dineshchandra Salam stated that the recovered birds belong to a Schedule II species under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.He added that the dead birds would be buried at an appropriate place, and that a case would be taken up under the relevant provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 .
