Sit-in condemns brutal murder of Rita Devi

Imphal, October 20 2025: Sana Khongnang Meira Paibis staged a sit-in protest today at Maisnam Leikai, Singjamei Chingamakha denouncing the heinous killing of Angom Ningol Asem Ongbi Rita Devi, who was found dead at her home on October 13 .

At the sit-in, Sana Khongnang Meira Paibis and family members of the deceased strongly condemned the heinous and barbaric incident which has sent shockwaves throughout the community, creating fear and trauma.

The protestors lamented that a murder inside the victim's house is a challenge against the security of the public.

"Manipur was considered a safe haven for women, children and elderly folks.

But the frequent cases of murder in their own residence has destroyed our distinct social fabric of facilitating the unfortunate ones", they added.

They also called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice and urged swift and decisive action to deter such acts in the future.

Family members also pleaded with the public to oppose the barbaric nature of the crime and to end the normalisation of this kind of act.
