CM exhorts state youth to join global IT race
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, October 20 2022: Chief Minister N Biren has encouraged the youth of Manipur to join the global race in information and technology instead of wasting their precious time on trivial things.

Speaking as chief guest at the 'Destination Infinity -Manipur IT Startup Challenge' jointly organised by CubeTen Technology and Innovation Hub Manipur (IHM) under the aegis of department of information technology held at IHM, IT Park, Mantripukhri on Thursday, Biren expressed hope that the youth of the state would take more interest in emerging sectors like IT with a positive mindset.

Instead of diverting attention and resources on trivial matters and involving in violent tussles in college election, it is imperative that Manipuri youngsters focus on sectors like IT, which is the future of the world, he said.

Terming as disheartening that no Manipuri student are studying in the HIT, he exhorted students to make use of facility in the state so as to explore huge opportunities available in IT sector.

While it is important to work on hot issues, putting more focus on things that could bring development in the state and uplift the status of the state at the global platform is more suitable for students, the CM observed.

As there is no dearth of talent in the state, the fault lies in the failure to focus on important things, he said.

The CM appreciated the students exhibiting their projects at the hub and said that the projects exhibited by the young students are quite encouraging and innovative, and a few of them will be tak en up as pilot projects soon.

He further said that the Innovation Hub inaugurated on March 15, 2021 is the first IT Innovation Hub in the North East India.

Certain prototypes based on Internet of Things (IoT) have been developed in the hub, including flood monitoring system and early warning system for rivers, smart control of home appliances and weighing machine with smart detection and sales reporting based on cloud reporting and management.

Some of the prototypes on exhibition could prove quite beneficial for the state when implemented practically, he noted.

Biren also explained that the main objective of the hub is to nurture new ideas and bringing out new products in line with Prime Minister's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and initiatives of Vocal for Local.

The centre is spread across 4000 square feet with three main laboratories - Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things.

Biren also highlighted some events and activities taken up by the hub, and said that 162 students have been trained on basics of IoT while 22 lecture series on emerging technologies have been taken up apart from a series of online seminars.

Around 1200 students from various institutes have visited the hub on exposure trips on various emerging technologies and 26 students have completed internship as part of the academic project.

It is due to education that today the youth are able to enjoy the changes happening across the world in the IT, Science and Technology sectors, Biren said.

He also informed that an MoU has been signed with MiKroTik for exploring possibilities in certifying network engineers for next generation network infrastructure.

Chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, IT director N Deben and CubeTen Technologies managing director Haobam Joyremba also attended the event and accompanied the CM in inspecting the exhibits.

Wangkheimayum Paikhomba's fish feeding project, Eyumgai Project and MTU students' powerless pump project won the top three awards respectively.

The awards consist of cash, certificate and trophy.

Later, the CM visited the BPO operated by CubeTen Technologies Pvt Ltd and interacted with BPO agents, who were interacting with customers in Australia and the US.

The CM also visited IT SEZ and New Secretariat sites.
