Chandel, February 20 2026:
In a renewed push to reinforce the party and reconnect with people at the grassroots, the Indian National Congress (AICC) has launched the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (SSA) in Chandel district as part of its nationwide organisational restructuring effort.
The campaign aims to rejuvenate the party by electing new District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents and strengthening local leadership.
AICC Observer for Kakching and Chandel districts, Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe, formally launched the campaign at Town Hall, Chandel, on Friday.
He arrived in Imphal on Wednesday to oversee the restructuring process in both districts.
Talking about the campaign, Gudadhe said the Congress initiated the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan as a nationwide organisational transformation programme, following the recent AICC session in Ahmedabad.
"This initiative is about building a stronger, more accountable and people-connected party structure starting from the District Congress Committees," he said.
He informed that the campaign focuses on reforming the manner in which DCC presidents are identified and held accountable.
"We are moving from symbolic leadership to functional, committed leadership that will work shoulder to shoulder with the cadre," he added.
He stated that observers have been tasked with holding extensive consultations with party workers, elected representatives, former officebearers and civil society members to identify the most suitable leaders.
"This process will culminate in the appointment of new DCC presidents who are expected to assume responsibilities by the end of this phase," the observer added.
Gudadhe further informed that once the DCC restructuring is completed, the party will move on to revive Block, Mandal and Village Congress Committees to ensure the party's presence and voice in every comer of the district.
MPCC secretary and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee observer for Chandel and Tengnoupal district, Wahidur Rahman said that the objective of the Abhiyan is to rejuvenate the party from the grassroots by selecting energetic and dynamic leaders.
He urged aspiring candidates to come forward for the DCC president post, adding that although nominations are open, the final selection will be made by AICC leadership after one-on-one interactions.
So far, 12 candidates have submitted their nominations for the post of president, Chandel District Congress Committee.
The campaign, hosted by the Chandel DCC, witnessed participation from over 60 executive members and well-wishers from the Chandel Mahila Congress Committee, Chandel Block Congress Committee and Chandel Youth Congress Committee.
