Thoubal, January 12 2026:
The indefinite lockdown of the Waithou Water Supply Scheme, imposed by the Waithou Executive Youth Association (WEYA) and Waithou Apunba Meira Paibi since December 24,2025 as a form of protest against the failure to provide water connections to five localities of the Waithou area, was called off on Monday following a resolution reached with officials of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) .
Handing over the keys of the Water Supply Scheme to the authorities this afternoon, WEYA advisor Thiyam Kishan said that the decision to suspend the agitation was taken after a meeting with PHED Chief Engineer Kiran Kumar Laishram.
He stated that the Chief Engineer assured that the Department would soon initiate the installation of pipelines in the five villages and provide water connections to the residents.
As an interim measure, the PHED has also assured that water tankers would be sent to the five localities to meet the immediate needs of the villagers until the pipeline work is completed, he added.
Thiyam Kishan expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to consumers during the period of protest and conveyed gratitude to the PHED officials for responding positively to the demands of the people of Waithou.
