Govt fulfill demands, JNIMS community call off agitation

Imphal, April 11 2021: All activities of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) has been resumed today after the JNIMS community - Teachers' Association, Train Nurses Associations and the Association of All Non Teaching staffs call off the protest by withdrawing the mass resignation submitted to the JNIMS Director after the state government agreed to fulfill the demand for implementation of the 7th Pay ROP with notional effect from 1.1.2016 .

A memorandum of understanding signed between 3 JNIMS community who were on agitation, with the government representatives under the chairmanship of MLA S Ranjan, who is Health Advisor to the Chief Minister of Manipur had agreed to implement the 7th Pay Commission in JNIMS with prospective / immediate effect i.e.1st April, 2021 .

The JNIMS community has been on intense agitation since March 20 after the authority did not listened to their demand.

The community later took ultimate measures to let their voice heard by submitting mass resignation, which literally means closure of all activities including providing care service to patient on April 8 .

It took no time for the Chief Minister to act and it was indeed under his understanding about the genuine demand of the community that the government authority solved the issue at the earliest possible time.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by V Vumlumang, Principal Secretary (H & FW) , Dr Th Bhimo Singh (Director, JNIMS) and Regina Hongrey Deputy Secretary (PIC) from the government side and Dr H Kulabidhu Singh President Teachers' Association , JNIMS, Dr S Bikramaditya , General Secretary, Teacher's Association JNIMS, Th Memcha , President Train Nurses Association (TNA), Nilkanta , Vice President, Association of All Non-Teaching Staffs, Ph, Janapriya Devi GS, TNA and three others from the side of JNIMS community.

In The memorandum of understanding signed today, it is stated that considering the special duties performed by the doctors, nurses and staff of JNIMS, especially facing the COVID-19 Pandemic, the state government agrees to implement 7th Pay commission in JNIMS with notional effect from 1.1.2016 as special case.

Implementation will start with effect from 1.4.2021 .

This rare exception is made only in the wake of duties performed in tackling COVID -19 Pandemic requiring extra hours of work and uninterrupted services of ten at risk to personal life.

This may not b cited as a precedent by other autonomous bodies, societies, PSUs under the government of Manipur.

Finance department also agreed to consider the request of the TNA for adoption of MACP and uniform allowance of Priority.
