Eight arrested for illegally felling trees

Kakching, August 06 2025:
Eight persons have been arrested for illegally felling trees in a proposed Reserve Forest Area in Kakching district.
The eight persons were found felling trees at Laipham Loknung, under Khunuda (Khunuta) Laiching Proposed Reserved Forest yesterday, said sources.
They were arrested after the Forest officials were tipped off about some persons felling and transporting trees from the forest area.
After receiving the information, officials of Thoubal Forest Division, led by DFO Dr Leishangthem Jeeceelee and Kakching Range Officer Huidrom Sunder rushed to the spot and detained the persons.
The Forest officials have also seized a Shaktiman vehicle and a modified tractor used for transportation of the trees.
Legal action under Indian Forest Act will be initiated against the eight individuals, said Forest officials.
