One-day awareness programme on women's empowerment held at Thamlakhuren

A one-day awareness programme on "Empowering of Women through Parenting and Legal Rights" was successfully conducted on Friday at the Community Hall, Thamlakhuren, Chandel district.
The programme was jointly organised by the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and Lamkang Naga Snu Lup.
The awareness programme aimed to enhance women's understanding of their parenting and legal rights, while strengthening their confidence, personal safety, and decisionmaking capacity.
It also sought to equip women with essential knowledge to protect themselves from exploitation, access legal and institutional support, and actively contribute to family well-being and overall community development.
The event was attended by Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, chairperson, MSCW; Sk Sophia, member MSCW; Shetlengam Sankhil member of Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes; W Phajatombi Devi, MCS, member secretary MSCW and Addl Director (IPR), Manipur; Sk Bhadramal, Asst Chief of Thamlakhuren; Kh Wimi, president of Lamkang Naga Snu Lup, who graced the programme as presidium members.
The programme began with an opening prayer pronounced by D Jamesing, Pastor Thamlakhuren.
Delivering the welcome and introductory address, W Phajatombi Devi, highlighted the importance of awareness programmes in enhancing women's understanding of legal rights and issues related to family welfare within the community.
Addressing the gathering, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, chairperson MSCW, stressed the crucial role of women in shaping families and society.
She stated that empowering women with knowledge of their legal rights and parenting responsibilities leads to a stronger community.
She further emphasized that women are not only caregivers but also protectors, guides, decision-makers and builders of values, playing a vital role in nurturing the next generation.
During the technical session, Rev Dr Koningthou Ngoruw Moyon, Associate Pastor, deliberated on "Empowering Women through Parenting," focusing on valuebased upbringing, emotional support within families, and the role of mothers in nurturing good and responsible citizens.
Another session on "Legal Rights of Women (Know Your Rights)" was delivered by Kh Lucy Jacky, Deputy Chief, Legal Aid Defence Counsel, who explained legal provisions related to protection from violence, property rights, and avenues for seeking legal assistance.
Around 120 men and women participants from Thamlakhuren and neighbouring villages attended the programme.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ss Elizabeth Sankhilnu, finance secretary, Lamkang Naga Snu Lup, followed by a closing prayer by Sk Bashok Dilbungnu.
