Forest Dept bans trekking, camping in Nongmaiching RF

Imphal, June 02 2026:
The Divisional Forest Office, Central Forest Division, Manipur has prohibited all activities including camping, expeditions, and trekking inside Nongmaiching Reserve Forest with immediate effect, citing arise in illegal trespassing.
In an order issued today, the Forest Department said such activities are disturbing the ecological balance, endangering wildlife, and violating Section 26 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 .
The ban applies to all individuals and organisations and will remain in force until further notice.
Range officers and staff have been directed to conduct regular patrolling and maintain strict vigil against illegal entry.
The order warns that any person found trespassing or carrying out prohibited activities without permission from competent authorities will face action under the Indian Forest Act, 1927 and Manipur Forest Rules, 2021 .
Offences are punishable with imprisonment up to six months, or fine, or both.
Officials said the measure was necessary to protect the reserve forest's biodiversity and check unauthorised human interference.
