AR pays tribute to braveheart

In a poignant tribute to valor and sacrifice, the Assam Rifles conducted a solemn wreath-laying ceremony in honor of Rifleman (Late) C B Sunar, who laid down his life in the line of duty on August 31, 1969.According to a release issued by HQ IGAR (South), the ceremony took place at the unit premises, commemorating the braveheart's ultimate sacrifice during a Road Opening Party operation on the Kharasam-Chingjara road in Imphal.
On that fateful morning in 1969, a column comprising nine personnel of Road Opening Party, from, 4 Assam Rifles was engaged in a routine search operation.
The team came under sudden ambush by an unidentified insurgent group.
In the face of hostile fire, the troops responded with courage and retaliated swiftly.
Rifleman C B Sunar, while gallantly defending his comrades and the mission, sustained a fatal gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries, his sacrifice forever etched in the annals of Assam Rifles' proud history.
To honor his memory and inspire future generations, the Senior Officials of the unit led the ceremony by laying a wreath at the memorial, recounting the valiant actions of Rifleman Sunar.
His story was shared with heartfelt reverence, instilling a deep sense of pride and duty among the ranks.
The tribute was marked by the presence of 106 personnel from the battalion, who paid their respects through wreath-laying and a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
The event served not only as a remembrance of a fallen soldier but also as a reaffirmation of the Assam Rifles' unwavering commitment to the Nation.
Rifleman Sunar's legacy continues to inspire the force, reminding all of the courage and selflessness that define the spirit of India's oldest paramilitary organisation.
