Imphal, September 10 2011:
Triggered by a rumour of suspected blockade supporters attacking goods trucks and a driver killed, local people of Moidangpok today smashed two cars and a Maruti Van and scattered goods ferried by Tata Magics and Autorikshaws.
However a police team of Imphal West led by Additional SP Herojit soon rushed at the spot and dispersed the mob by firing tear gas shells.
The ill fated vehicles were towed in at Patsoi police station.
Meanwhile, the Transport and Drivers Council appealed to the people of the state especially along the NH 37 not to believe in any rumour when the state is in such a critical condition.
He also appealed to the blockade supporters not to harm the innocent drivers since they are only doing their duties for the welfare of the people of the state.
