Mela / exhibition programme held

A one-day "Sericulture Krishi Mela cum Exhibition" programme was held at the premises of the Central Silk Board, Regional Sericulture Research Station at Mantripukhri, Imphal today.
Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arunkumar; CSB-Central Muga Eri Research Institute, Jorhat, Director Dr Kartik N; CSB-Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Ranchi, Director NB Chowdary; ICAR Manipur Centre Head Dr Ch Basudha; and Manipur State Sericulture Cooperative Federation Limited Chairman Th Surjaboro among others attended the event.
CSB-Regional Sericulture Research Station Imphal's head Dr S Subharani said not all States of India can produce products of all four types of silk - Eri, Muga, Mulberry and Tasar.
Manipur is one of the States in North East India which can produce products of these four types of silk.
Manipur has the potential to become a prominent producer of silk products, she said.
The exhibition aims to promote the production of silk products in Manipur, adopt new and innovative technologies, identify and resolve problems facing sericulture farmers and artisans, she added.
A technical session on rearing of silkworm and management of diseases was conducted as a part of the event.
The programme was organised under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
