MCPCR takes up Corporal punishment case

Imphal, September 26 2025:
The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has taken suo motu cognizance of a case involving corporal punishment of a five-year-old pre- primary student at Catholic School, Canchipur, as revealed in a viral video posted by the child's mother on social media.
In an order issued by its Chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar, the MCPCR announced it would investigate the matter under the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, the Right to Education Act, 2009, the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and other relevant laws.
The Commission has directed the school authorities, teachers, the Education Department, and the victim's parents to fully cooperate with the inquiry.
Expressing concern, the MCPCR noted that incidents of corporal punishment in educational institutions persist despite
being prohibited.
