Imphal, December 20 2025:
Timely medical intervention at Sky Hospital saved the life of a 55-year-old man suffering from heart attack.
As per a release issued by Sky Hospital, L Sanjoy, a resident of Thoubal district was brought to the hospital's Emergency Department (ED) with sudden onset chest pain Within minutes of his arrival to SKY Hospital, an urgent bedside Echocardiogram was performed.
This showed transmural akinesia (no movement) of the heart muscle forming the left ventricular apex in the region of the heart supplied by left anterior descending artery (LAD).
The Echo finding with his severe ischaemic sounding chest pain was diagnostic of acute transmural myocardial infarction (heart attack).
Immediately Sanjoy was given multiple drugs simultaneously namely Double anti-platelet drugs orally, intravenous Tenecteplase 35 mg and intravenous Enoxaparin 30 mg bolus dose, followed by 70 mg of Enoxaparin subcutaneously 15 minutes thereafter, while other supporting therapy e.g.oxygen continued.
Sanjoy's chest pain promptly subsided while waiting for the test results.
The Troponin I was positive for heart attack.
Serial ECGs showed evolutionary changes of acute heart attack.
Subsequent coronary angiogram showed successful reperfusion of the affected segment of the artery, resulting in near free flow of blood to the heart muscle distal to the previously blocked area of the LAD.
The coronary stent implantation (PCI) was therefore not required.
Dr Shyamkishore Lairikyengbam, Chief Cardiologist of SKY Hospital expressed happiness and satisfaction on the successful combo drugs therapy without need of PCI thereby not only saving heart muscle cells and patients life but also treatment cost.
He appealed to the people of Manipur to be aware of symptoms of heart attack such as chest pain, left arm pain, sudden onset palpitation, dizziness, breathlessness, sweating, nausea and vomiting and the importance of quick reporting to full-fledged heart hospitals like SKY Hospital which has track record of higher survival rate.
The best treatment provided at the acute phase of Heart Attack leads to longer survival of patients in later years, he added.
He reminded us that the survival rate of patients with acute Heart Attack treated at SKY Hospital is higher than Global average survival rate.
