Film Forum, UMO appeal for suspension of entertainment events ahead of Class X, XII exams

Imphal, January 20 2026:
In view of the upcoming Class X and XII examinations, Film Forum Manipur and Universal Mothers' Organisation (UMO) have appealed for suspension of various entertainment events.
In a press release, Film Forum Manipur said that an emergency meeting was held today at their office in Lamphel with the participation of members of its associate guild and organisations.
As per a resolution passed at the meeting, the Forum has urged people to refrain from organising any entertainment activities, including film screenings or musical events from February 1, 2026 until the end of the HSLC Examination 2026.However, the restriction will be relaxed for events conducted at dedicated halls, auditoriums or theatres.
Additionally, it has urged all concerned to wrap up entertainment activities by 10 pm in the interest of students.
Film Forum Manipur has sought the support of CSOs and student organisations in this regard.
Separately, Moirangthem Sorojini Leima, president, UMO has also appealed for suspension of tambola housie/bingo events, shumang-leelas, fairs, musical programme etc from January 21 .
Saying that a drive will be launched from tomorrow onwards, she said those found acting in violation of their appeal should be held accountable for the consequences.
She made the statement during a press briefing held today at UMO Office in Lamphel.
On January 14, 2026 UMO had issued an appeal calling all concerned to stop organising such entertainment events from January 21 which may disturb the students ahead of the Class X and XII exams.
Saying that the drive will be launched for the welfare of the student community, she urged the public to support UMO's initiative.
On another note, M Sorojini Leima urged the public to contact the organisation if anyone is found collecting money using UMO's name.
