A 10-day hands-on workshop on "Quantitative Data Analysis Using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) for Research Scholars and Faculty Members" began today at the conference hall of the Department of Commerce, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal.
Organised by the Department of Commerce, DMU under the theme "From Research Design to Statistical Analysis and Publication-Ready Research", the workshop aims to equip faculty, students and research scholars with practical skills in data analysis for academic publication.
The inaugural function was graced by Prof W Chandbabu, Vice Chancellor, DMU; Dr P Tikendrajit, Head, Department of Commerce, DMU; Prof N Jayanti, Dean, School of Business Studies, DMU; and Prof Kh Rajen, Principal, DM College of Commerce, DMU.
Technical sessions were also held on the opening day.
Addressing the gathering, Prof W Chandbabu said the training was necessitated by changing research standards.
"Today, research papers cannot be published nationally or internationally without using statistical tools and techniques for data analysis", he said.
Noting that the concept of research has changed significantly in the last 20 to 30 years, the Vice Chancellor added, "Teachers must know essential tools, otherwise how will they guide those under them? DM University has 441 teachers, some of whom will retire soon.
It is necessary for the existing faculty to learn statistical tools".
He stressed that papers prepared without using proper research tools are unlikely to be accepted by international journals, and urged participants to make full use of the workshop.
The programme will cover data handling, statistical testing and interpretation using SPSS, with a focus on producing publication-ready research.
