Assam Rifles hosts historic pilgrimage for veterans in Manipur

Imphal, April 16 2026: The Akhil Bharatiya Poorva Sainik Sewa Parishad (ABPSSP) successfully concluded a four-day commemorative pilgrimage to Manipur yesterday, honoring the historic legacy of the Indian National Army (INA) .

The event, meticulously coordinated by Assam Rifles, marked the anniversary of April 14, 1944 - the day the INA first hoisted the Indian tricolour on mainland soil in Moirang.

As per a release issued by HQ IGAR( South), the 17-member veteran delegation arrived on April 12 and followed a comprehensive itinerary.

On April 13, the group visited Govindaji Temple, Kangla Fort, and the Imphal Peace Museum.

The veterans interacted with the Governor at Lok Bhawan and attended a formal social interaction organised by the Director General and Inspector General of Assam Rifles.

On April 14, the veterans visited Leimakhong Military Station, where they paid homage at the memorial with a wreath-laying ceremony and toured the station museum.

Despite local challenges requiring a low-key observance at the INA War Museum in Moirang, the core objective of the "Azad Hind Fauj Diwas" remained the central focus of the pilgrimage.

A specialized team from Assam Rifles provided continuous escort and logistics, ensuring the safety and comfort of the esteemed veterans.

As the delegation departed yesterday from the garrisons of Mantripukhri and Minuthong, they expressed profound gratitude for the dedication shown by the armed forces.

The pilgrimage served as a powerful reminder of the enduring bond between India's veteran community and its active service members.
