Over 10 Kgs of brown sugar seized

In major crackdowns on drug trafficking, police arrested 8 persons and seized 10.443 Kg of brown sugar in three different operations on Tuesday.
Major haul of the contraband item was made in Kangpokpi district.
The Kangpokpi police on Tuesday seized brown sugar weighing 9.844 kilograms and arrested three persons in a joint operation assisted by the Assam Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from Alex Farm in Kangpokpi district, said police in a statement.
The joint "targeted operation" was launched at 1 pm of October 14 based on specific inputs regarding transportation of drugs by certain individuals, said a police source.
The three arrested have been identified as Veineichong Lhungdim and Thongkhopao Lhungdim, a couple from C Munnom Village, Saitu Gamphajol, Kangpokpi and Thangminlun Haokip, son of Thanghao Haokip, of T Thangkan Village, Saikul.

From their possession, the joint team recovered 225 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing 9.844 Kg (including the weight of the soap cases), one Alto car used in the transportation, one diesel Autorickshaw and four mobile phones.
The combined team was led by Addl SP (L&O) Kangpokpi, SDPO Kang-pokpi, SDPO Sapar-meina, and OC Kangpokpi police station, in close coordination with personnel from the 16 Assam Rifles and 112 Battalion CRPF .
Police sources confirmed that the accused persons have been taken into custody, and further investi- gation is underway to trace the source and network of the drug smuggling.
In another operation at Senapati district, the district police and 16 Assam Rifles personnel on Tuesday arrested three persons and seized 15 soap cases of brown sugar weighing 192 grams.
The combined team of the police and the AR first arrested Bishal Kumar (23) of Maram Kavanam, presently residing at Lairouching village, Senapati district.
He was arrested while transporting the 192 grams of brown sugar in a Tata truck (6-wheeler) bearing Assam registration number, said sources.
This led to further arrest of two more persons involved in the case identified as Lungsuipii Ranmei (30) and Luikang Adam (28), both of Mayangkhang Village, Kangpokpi district.
A case has been registered at Mao police station for further investigation.
Further, in a separate case, Mao police and personnel of 16 Assam Rifles seized 30 soap cases of brown sugar weighing 407 grams from two individuals during a routine check at Mao PS check gate.
The two arrested are identified as H Linii (35) of Tunggam Afii, presently residing at TNK Village and V Mado (36) of Tunggam Afii, presently residing at TNK Village, Senapati district.
Police sources said the contraband was being transported in a Tata Yodha bearing Nagaland number.
Mao Police Station has registered a case and further investigation is underway, added police.
