Lions, Rotary Clubs honour teachers for dedicated service

Imphal, September 13 2026: Lions Club of Imphal and Rotary Club of Imphal honoured retired and serving teachers at separate functions held in Imphal.

As part of its Teachers' Day observance for 2026, Lions Club of Imphal honoured four retired teachers at its Service Centre at Sangaiprou on Sunday.

The honoured teachers are Irengbam Kameswar Singh, retired Lecturer of Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School; Huidrom Nabakumar Singh, retired Head Master of Meitei Mayek High School; Dr Ngangom Ekashini Devi, retired Principal of Naorem Birahari College; and Khumbongmayum Bimabati Devi, retired Senior Lecturer of Mekola Gulap Higher Secondary School.

They were felicitated with shawls, citations and flower pots bearing the Lions logo as part of the branding activity of Lions International District 322D.Club president Nitish Singh said honouring retired teachers for their selfless service is a permanent project of the club.

The club also organised the Lions Peace Poster Contest 2026 on the theme "Together as One" in which 27 students aged 11-13 participated.

Siram Jashita of Nongpok Maheikol won the contest.

Meanwhile, Rotary Club of Imphal (RID-3240) honoured six Government school teachers with Rotary Gyan Jyoti Award 2026-27 and Prem Gopal Memorial Rotary Teacher Award 2026 at Samagra Shiksha Conference Hall, Babupara, on Saturday.

The awardees are Leishangthem Santosh (Takhel Sanjenbam Primary School, Zone-II), Nongthombam Ibungo Singh (Keirao Bitra Primary School, Zone-II), Chandam Elizabeth Devi (Malom Megha High School, Wangoi), Konthoujam Khogendra Singh (Heibongpokpi High School, Zone-I), Thokchom Sharmila Devi (Sadar Patel Memorial Primary School, Zone-I) and Laishram Sarju Devi (Phoijing No 6 Junior High School, Zone-IV).

Director, Education (S), Ng Bhogendra Meitei, chief guest of the function, appreciated the Rotary Club's initiative and said Government school performance is improving.

Dr N Muhindro Singh, president Rotary Club of Imphal, and Prof Maibam Chourjit Singh, Club Literacy chair, were also present.
