Imphal, September 12 2026: A two-day 9th National Conference of the Indian Society of Kawasaki Disease commenced today at Classic Grande.

Organised by the Indian Society for Kawasaki Disease (ISKD) with the support of the Pediatric Association of Manipur, the conference is being held under the theme, "Advancing Frontier in Kawasaki Disease: Pathways to Precision Therapy".

International faculty members attending the conference include Tsubara Kawasaki, daughter of Tomisaku Kawasaki, who discovered Kawasaki disease, and Dr Shinsuke Hoshino, a pediatric cardiologist at Shiga University of Medical Science, Japan.

They spoke on Kawasaki disease, its clinical aspects and measures for its prevention.

Other experts and members of the ISKD also shared their views on the Kawasaki disease and delivered oral and poster presentations on various aspects of the disease.

Dr Nameirakpam Johnson, organising secretary of the conference, said that Kawasaki disease is an inflammatory disease of the blood vessels, particularly the coronary arteries, that affects children under five years of age.

Saying that early treatment and medication can prevent the disease from causing damage to the heart and blood vessels, he added that failure to receive timely treatment could even lead to a heart attack among children.

He said that the disease presents symptoms such as red eyes, a red tongue, red lips, rashes and persistent fever, which do not subside even with antibiotics.

An online quiz competition was also held for delegates who attended the conference.

Pediatric Association Manipur president Dr RK Rupabati also attended the programme.
