Kakching, September 11 2026: The 41st National Eye Donation Fortnight 2026 was observed at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Hiyanglam in Kakching district today.

The observation was jointly organised by the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB & VI), National Health Mission Manipur and the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur.

Speaking at the programme, State Nodal Officer NPCB & VI, Dr Vikram Singh Khoisnam said that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India has been observing the Eye Donation Fortnight since 1985 to raise awareness about eye donation among the public.

Highlighting that the fortnight aims to sensitize the public about the benefits and myths of eye donation, he stated that awareness campaigns, free eye screening and cataract operation will be conducted while free medicines and spectacles will be provided to the elderly people.

As a part of the observation, an awareness programme was held wherein six individuals pledged to donate eyes after death.

In today's programme, a team of five doctors and 25 staff attended to around 400 patients and provided free medicines and spectacles.
