Awareness programme on senior citizens' welfare held at Noney

Noney, March 11 2026:
An awareness programme on the welfare of senior citizens under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) was held today at the Multipurpose Hall, Longmai-3 in Noney.
The programme was organised by the District Administration, Noney in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office, Noney with the objective of spreading awareness about government welfare schemes meant for senior citizens and other vulnerable groups.
Thuankimlak Newmai, SDC Noney, attended the event as the chief guest, while Dr Thaimei Gairanlung, Senior Medical Officer of PHC Noney, graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
Singupngam Thaimei, District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Noney, presided over the programme as the functional president.
Golmei Pouhoilung, Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) from Noney Legal Aid Clinic, attended the event as the resource person.
Delivering the welcome and keynote address, Singupngam Thaimei highlighted various welfare schemes implemented by the State and Central Governments for senior citizens, differently-abled persons, widows and widowers.
Dr Thaimei spoke on the importance of healthcare and regular medical check-ups for senior citizens.
Resource person Golmei Pouhoilung explained the roles and responsibilities of Para Legal Volunteers and informed the participants about the legal services available for people in need.
In his address, chief guest Thuankimlak Newmai extended greetings to the senior citizens and appreciated the initiative of the District Social Welfare Office for organising the awareness programme aimed at uplifting weaker sections of society.
He also encouraged all eligible beneficiaries to avail themselves of the benefits under various government schemes.
The programme was attended by village leaders and around 200 senior citizens from different villages of the Longmai area.
Village leaders expressed appreciation to the organisers for conducting such an awareness camp.
As a token of respect and honour, blankets were also distributed to all senior citizens present at the programme.
