Imphal, May 10 2026:
As World Lupus Day was observed in different parts of the world on Sunday, staff of Asian Hospital & Research Institute organised a walkathon to spread information on lupus.
The walk began from the institute's premises at Kwakeithel Bazaar, proceeded to Ningthemcha Leikai, and returned to Kwakeithel Bazaar before concluding at the institute.
Speaking about the walk, Asian Hospital & Research Institute RMO Dr Bidyarani said lupus is a disease that can spread to different organs of the body and damage them.
She asserted that the walkathon was organised to raise public awareness about the disease.
"It is often difficult to diagnose early, and people face many hardships and delays in diagnosis", Dr Bidyarani said.
She said around 90 percent of lupus cases are seen in women aged 18 to 85 years.
"Symptoms vary, but common ones include fever, body aches, fatigue, joint pain, weight loss and a butterfly-shaped rash on the face", she added.
