Folk singer Benita Laishram accorded warm reception in Bangladesh

Renowned Manipuri folk singer Benita Laishram was accorded a warm reception on Tuesday evening at Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Bhanubil Meitei village in Bangladesh.
The reception programme was organised by the Manipuri Library and Research Centre (MLRC), Bangladesh, in recognition of her contributions to folk music and cultural promotion.
The ceremony was attended by MLRC president Leichombam Digendra, secretary of the Patriotic Writers' Forum (PAWF), Rakesh Naorem, noted writer AK Seram and cultural activist Chongtham Sangeeta, among others, who graced the function as presidium members.
During the event, Benita Laishram was felicitated with a traditional shawl made from Bangladesh lyong along with a memento as a mark of honour.
Hailing from Achanbigei Mayai Leikai, Benita is the daughter of Laishram Loken Singh and Laishram Ongbi Thoibi.
A dynamic folk vocalist, dancer and cultural ambassador, she completed her Master's degree in Manipuri Folk Music from Manipur University in 2025.She was among the top four finalists in Bharat Ka Amrit Kalash, India's first national folk reality show.
She has also represented Manipuri culture at various international and national platforms, including the North East Festival 2024, Istanbul, Global Village Dubai and the Shirui Lily Festival.
The reception highlighted the growing cultural ties and shared heritage between Manipuris in Manipur and those residing in Bangladesh.
