Imphal, January 07 2026:
A protest meeting against the United States' military aggression against Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores was held today at Irabot Bhawan, Imphal.
The protest meeting was organised by the Left Coordination Committee Manipur, consisting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Revolutionary Socialist Party and the Forward Bloc.
Speaking at the protest meeting, Left Coordination Committee Manipur chairman L Sotinkumar said that Venezuela is one of the most highly-urbanised socialist nations in Latin America and entering its territory without permission and arresting its President is completely against international laws.
"The US's military action against Venezuela was a blatant violation of the UN Charter.
It was an act of imperial aggression that violates every principle of international law the US claims to uphold", he added.
He vehemently denounced the US's imperialist actions and interventions in Venezuala and other socialist nations in Latin America, throughout the Cold War and beyond.
"The action, under the pretext of drug trafficking prevention, targeted Venezuela's oil wealth nationalised by former President Hugo Chavez", said Sotinkumar while rejecting drug trafficking claims as pretexts like past interventions in Iraq, Cuba and Vietnam.
Highlighting that protests are being held across the country against the US aggression and in solidarity with the people of Latin America, Sotinkumar said that the people of Manipur should remember the principles championed by Lamyanba Hijam Irabot and stand against imperialism.
"The only effective way to fight imperialism is through the struggle of the masses of working people", said Sotinkumar.
Leaders of CPI, CPI(M) and Forward Bloc also vehemently condemned the US aggression and demanded the immediate release of Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
Meanwhile, the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has condemned the US military action in Venezuela, calling the action a blatant disregard for international law and sovereignty.
"The US operation lacked UN Security Council authorization and Venezuelan consent, and it does not constitute self-defence against an armed attack, violating Article 2 of the UN Charter", said MSF in a release.
MSF pointed out that the US action breached core principles of international law, including respect for State sovereignty, noninterference, and the prohibition of force.
MSF said that the action has set a dangerous precedent and many countries, including Russia, China, France, Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico, have condemned the US action as a violation of international law and the UN Charter.
MSF also also expressed serious concern about human rights and the rule of law, and demanded the immediate release of President Maduro and his wife.
Raising concern that the incident may destabilize the region and undermine global order, MSF urged the UN to discuss the matter seriously and direct the US to respect international law and sovereignty.
MSF urged the US Government to respect international law and release President Maduro and his wife.
MSF further called upon the United Nations to intervene in this matter, facilitate a peacefid resolution and ensure the protection of human rights and sovereignty.
