Imphal, September 02 2024:
In connection with the death of Ngangbam Surbala Devi of Phayeng Umang Leikai, who was killed in an attack by suspected Kuki militants at Koutruk village and her young daughter left injured on Sunday, a public meeting was held at Phayeng Mamang Leikai Keithel on Monday.
During the meeting, the 'JAC against the brutal killing of Ngangbam (o) Surbala in Kuki terrorists attack at Koutruk' was formed, with Ningthoujam Popilal as the convenor.
The resolutions adopted at the meeting demanded the government to conduct immediate operation against the Kuki terrorists; arrests all Kuki terrorists involved in Sunday's attack at Koutruk within 24 hours; central government withdraw SoO with Kuki terrorists; remove Assam Rifles from Manipur; deployment of adequate state forces in Meetei villages located in foothills and fringe areas; government take responsibility for the family of the deceased; and, launch agitations with the people in case the government fails to address the above demands.
In this regard, JAC convenor Ningthoujam Popilal questioned whether the death of Surbala and the injury of her daughter, who is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity, is what the chief minister meant by saying that peace has been restored in Manipur.
Until and unless, the government makes its stand firmly clear to the people, Surbala's body will not be claimed.
He then continued that the CM does not make a sound when he is being scolded in a vulgar manner in peace rallies carried out in hill areas, but did not hesitated in taking action against the displaced people staying in relief camps in the valley who took out a rally to allow them return to their homes.
The CM seems to have confused on who and where to show off his bravado, he remarked.
On the other hand, Manipur Women's Federation (MWF) condemned the intentional killing of Ngangbam Surbala Devi and injuring of her 11-year old daughter by Kuki terrorists in Koutruk area on Sunday.
Terming it as a heinous and barbaric attack, MWF questioned how Kuki terrorists carried out the attack on the innocent civilians with drones and other sophisticated weapons from an area with adequate presence of central forces.
The Federation demanded the central government to initiate appropriate action against Kuki terrorists so as to protect the innocent women and children and public property, and the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Lup Manipur (PLMPAM) and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) also condemned the attack at Koutruk by terrorists on Sunday.
Indigenous Mothers Association Haomee (IMAH) also condemned the Koutruk attack and stressed the need for all to unite against the enemies who are threatening the unity, security and territorial integrity of Manipur.
