Training on 'Shumang Leela Tradition' ends

A month-long training programme on "Shumang Leela Tradition" concluded today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen in Palace Compound, Imphal.
The training programme was organised by Manipur State Shumang Leela Council in collaboration with Theatre Mirror Imphal.
The closing function was graced by Sunanda Thokchom, Secretary, Manipur State Kala Academy; G Dharmadas Sharma, Joint Director, Art & Culture, Manipur; and L Tomba, president, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunanda Thokchom said that Shumang Leela is a traditional form of theatre that has been an integral part of Manipuri culture for centuries.

She also called for collective effort to safeguard and promote the indigenous culture and traditional art forms of the State so that its legacy will be carried forth to coming generations for a strong and developed society.
G Dharmadas asserted that Shumang Leela serves as a critical cultural medium for addressing contemporary social issues, promoting moral values, fostering unity, and reinforcing integrity within society.
"Shumang Leela Council should consider opening training institutes to promote the art form" said G Dharmadas while expressing his desire for including the different art forms of the State in school education.
As part of the event, a book titled "Yotkhok Lal" was released.
Certificates were also distributed to the gurus (teachers) and students who participated in the training programme.
