Imphal, October 31 2025: Protests erupted today at Pukhao Leitanpokpi in Imphal East after Kukis began constructing a road from Purum Ching to Leitanpokpi Nungtabi by cutting hills using heavy machinery.

Taking strong exception to the road construction in front of Central security forces despite repeated appeals by residents to the authorities to stop it, the people of Pukhao Leitanpokpi dug up the road.

As the protest intensified, Imphal East Deputy Commissioner, Additional SP, SDPO, and a police team rushed to the spot and inspected the hill-cutting site with the locals.

Speaking to the media, the locals claimed that the Kukis had begun hill-cutting work even before the current crisis erupted on May 3, 2023.They also said they had repeatedly urged the relevant authorities to stop the disputed road construction, but no action has been taken so far.
